BOB (Noise 1) A self-published gamble pays off.
Bob Haigh is our 60-year-old proofreader and an old-school Yorkshire character whose name became a bit of an ATTIK parlor game around the studio. For years everyone called everyone "Bob" for no other reason than it was funny. The name stuck. This became the name used for our first full-color design experiment piece in 1995 - BOB. We had visions of breaking into the London design scene but could not afford to print something for
ourselves, so we persuaded two northern companies to work with us and share the cost in Leeds. It was a gamble, but it paid off for all of us. Thanks to the positive reception the book received, we pushed the concept even further. We came up with the rather cheeky scheme of selling the printed pieces through bookstores. These glorified company brochures that we had commissioned for free sold out within a few weeks. Published in 1995.
